PFLAG Kona/Big Island
Board of Directors
Jefferson Gourley has spent more than half his life woking with non-profit organizations of one sort or another. At 20 years old he was elected Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Aloha Performing Arts Company, after previously having served several years as chairman of the Aloha Teen Theatre and President of the West Hawaii Youth Theatre. From 2007 to 2012 Jeff was the chairman of the Kealakehe Intermediate School Community Council. Jeff has also been a passionate advocate for youth in West Hawaii for more than a decade working ass both a non-profit Youth Development Specialist as well as an educator with the Department of Education.
Jeff has nearly a decade of experience with grant writing and non-profit funding contracts, as well as extensive training in non-profit management and various curricula including personal development, business skills, and adult facilitator training. He is excited to be putting these skills to work on behalf of our community as we advocate on behalf of our community, support the members of our community, and educate the broader public.
We are pleased to welcome Karen to the PFLAG Kona/Big Island family and to the Board of Directors for the Chapter. After a decade of involvement with PFLAG in the Seattle Washington area Karen transplanted to Kona. At the time she was sad to discover there was no active chapter of PFLAG in the community, but was very excited to become involved when we got our chapter up and running. Karen brings a great deal of PFLAG experience that our young board is EXTREMELY grateful for, and is proud to offer her support to other parents of LGBT children in our community.
Elizabeth Rollins is a long time member of the non-profit community. Elizabeth is a staunch advocate of human rights and supporrtive of programs working on improving the circumstances of those in need. She was one of the leaders in bringing the Life Plan youth development curriculum to the Island of Hawaii, which has been implemented with all students of Kealakehe High School for several years, She is also currently serving on the Board of Directors for Friends of the Children of West Hawaii which provides support to children in the foster system as well as those who have been abused.
KC Mahoney is no stranger to volunteerism and non-profit organizations in West Hawaii. She has also served as the Secretary of the Board of Directors to Friends of the Children of West Hawaii for the past four years.
